One-Man Fundraiser for MLK Center

 In Bulletin

The MLK Center is raising money for their Tarkington Teen Work Crew program and needs our help! This program started last year with an initial grant from the City of Indianapolis and was very successful in its inaugural year. However, as the Center looks to transform this into a long-term program, they are looking for more sustainable funding. Until that happens, Pablo Svirsky, MK resident, has taken on this mission as a “One-Man Fundraiser” to ensure this quality program can take place year after year.

The primary goal of the program is to provide a summer job for teenagers in and around the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood. Many of the kids growing up near the MLK Center do not have the same access to opportunities that other kids in Indianapolis do. There are limited job opportunities in the area and many lack access to reliable transportation. This program helps fill those gaps. To learn more, click here

That said, the program does much more than just give kids a steady j ob. In addition to providing the discipline and work ethic that are inherent to any job , the MLK Center provides financial literacy training, academic tutoring, practice with conflict resolution, and more.

The goal to raise $60,000 and every little bit helps. With little-no-overhead to run the program, all funds will go directly to one of three areas:

  • paying the kids
  • paying supervisors
  • buying supplies
