You are invited to apply for 2012 Vi Walker Neighborhood Grant Program.  The Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association (MKNA) is proud to fund these grants from the proceeds of the Silent Auction at the Twilight Tour – Neighborhood Dinner, held the weekend of the M-K Home & Garden Tour (this year on June 15, 2012).

Background:  MKNA provides grants to organizations that serve youth and senior citizens residing in the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood.  (The neighborhood is bordered by Kessler Blvd. to the north, 38th St. on the south, Meridian St. on the west and the Monon Rail Trail to the east.)  Specifically, the program strives to impact needs in the following categories:

  • Health and Safety
  • Crime Prevention
  • Education
  • Community Engagement

This will be the 14th annual grant cycle for the program.  The MKNA Board will award the grants to organizations that serve neighborhood residents.  Grant requests can range from $500 to $5,000.  Applications will be evaluated by the MKNA Grant Committee and the M-K Home & Garden Tour Chairs.  Final funding decisions will be made by the MKNA Board.  Completed and signed applications must be received by the MKNA office before 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012.  Award notifications will be made the week of April 22. To receive a grant, your organization must be a nonprofit organization, school or church. Please note that if your application does not give a specific number or close estimate of Meridian-Kessler residents to be served, your application will not be considered for funding.

Purpose

MKNA funds programs that strengthen our neighborhood.  A solid application will show an understanding of the needs in one or more of the above four categories, purpose a solution, show a history of collaboration with other groups serving Meridian-Kessler and demonstrate a willingness to support MKNA volunteer activities.
