The Timmy Foundation
We weren't all born to be doctors and nurses, but we were all born to be
healers. This phrase, coined by Dr. Charles Dietzen has become the motto
of the Timmy Foundation, one of the Meridian Kessler neighborhood's newest
residents. This past summer, Faerber's Bee Window donated some space to
the foundation at 5235 N. Winthrop for use as a clearinghouse for medical
equipment and supplies.
The Timmy Foundation, started by Dr. Dietzen in 1997, works to
ensure that children have access to proper healthcare and education. They
do this by supporting community-based health and education initiatives
serving the poor in Haiti, Ecuador, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, South
Africa, Colombia, Honduras, and Nigeria. They send financial and material
assistance to partner organizations in these countries, and they organize
volunteer service trips to these sites.
The facility on N. Winthrop will be used primarily for collecting,
sorting, and distributing medical supplies, equipment, and
medicine.
"We collect anything from wheelchairs to wound care," says Dr.
Dietzen. Besides medical supplies, they also collect hygiene items,
school supplies, and reading glasses for distribution to their
international partners and to other organizations providing international
medical relief. Many items in their warehouse are distributed in Central
Indiana, such as wheelchairs for children with special needs and shower
chairs for the elderly.
"We are very grateful to our friends at Faerber's Bee Window and
glad to be a part of the Meridian Kessler neighborhood," says Dr.
Dietzen.
