IndyPL’s Summer Reading Program Kicks Off June 1 at the College Avenue Branch

Children of all ages and families are invited to tune up their reading performance and pump up the volume for reading during The Indianapolis Public Library’s 2015 Summer Reading Program, “Beatz & Bookz,” beginning June 1 and continuing through July 25 at the College Avenue Branch, 4180 N. College Avenue, as well as all other Indy Library locations and the Beech Grove Public Library.

This year’s music theme is inspired by the long-term support of 92.3 WTTS, whose Rock to Read concerts have generated nearly $100,000 for Library programs since 2007. The program’s mascot and top summer reading dog, Beatz, will be every young reader’s best friend and jammin’ book jockey by enthusiastically “woof-woofing” and tweeting about recent book releases, hot tracks and classic hits for participants to check out or download from the Library’s collection. Kids will be able to follow Beatz on Twitter @cantBeatzIndyPL.

Readers earn points for all books read, regardless of difficulty level, that can be exchanged for a variety of great prizes donated by community businesses and organizations. Those seeking greater rewards can choose from a list of notable Bonus Books. Among the prizes to be earned are tickets to an Indianapolis Indians game during Library Night at Victory Field on Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m. Game passes also are redeemable for admission to any Sunday – ThursdayIndians baseball game.

Participants also can enter to win a drawing for two $529 scholarships good toward a college savings account courtesy of CollegeChoice Direct 529 Savings Plan and CollegeChoiceCD 529 Savings Plan.

The 96th Annual Summer Reading Program is made possible by The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation Friends of the Library and presenting sponsor 92.3 WTTS. Additional support is provided by BKD, LLP; Carrier Corporation; Chase; Citizens Energy Group; CollegeChoice Direct 529 Savings Plan and CollegeChoice CD 529 Savings Plan; Hartley and Margaret Dellinger; Finish Line Youth Foundation; The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund; Eli Lilly and Company; Lilly Endowment Inc.; The Kroger Co.; Old National Bank; Pacers Foundation; Mary Frances Rubly; The Swisher Foundation, Inc., in memory of Glenn M. Swisher; Toysmith and United Water.

In 2014, 58,375 children, teens and parents participated in the Summer Reading Program.
