The Indianapolis Public Library has announced the lineup of free programs for April 2017

Job Center at the Library, April 3, 10, 17 & 24 from 2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and April 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.The Library presents a free service for unemployed or underemployed individuals to receive one-on-one assistance to enhance their employment skills. The session will focus on job search strategies, interviewing skills, resume development, and instruction on basic computer skills. The Job Center is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

 

Sing Along With Miss Bobbie, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers with an adult are invited for a live, interactive music experience during which they can dance, sing and laugh together.

 

Mother Goose on the Loose, April 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 & 27 at 10:30 a.m. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers and an adult are invited for an early literacy program using rhymes, songs, puppets and instruments to foster speech development, motor coordination, self-confidence and sensitivity to others. Adult participation is required.

 

Foil Art Class for Kids! April 6 at 4:00 p.m. Children ages 6 – 12 are invited to use a variety of materials to create their own work of art. They’ll then add a frame to finish it off! Registration is required. Space is limited to 25 participants. Call 317-275-4320 to register.

 

Safe Tots: A Child Safety Demonstration, April 7 at 1:00 p.m. As part of National Prevent Child Abuse Month, caregivers are invited to join STARS for Children for a free, hour-long session on such topics as Safe to Sleep and Safe Haven Law. Owls: Preschool Art Workshop, April 11 at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and an adult are invited to explore sculpture, simple shapes, and drawing and painting with The Art Lab. Children will listen to a favorite owl story, hand-build a mixed media sculpture, and draw and paint their creation using watercolor and crayons. Call 317-275-4320 to register.

 

AftersCool @ College Avenue! April 13, 20 & 27 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. School-age children are invited to drop in for a series on such topics as Legos, origami, yoga, jewelry-making and computer coding. It’s a casual time to socialize with friends and learn something new.

 

Spring Cooking Workshops: Freezer to Slow Cooker, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. Learn to plan ahead, use your freezer and have meals ready to go right into the crock pot for a whole month! A presenter from the Marion County Health Department will demonstrate a method for preparing stress-free, ready-to-go meals in a snap. The program will include live demonstrations and food tastings. College Avenue Book Discussion, April 24 at 6:00 p.m. Adults are invited to this monthly book discussion program. In celebration of National Poetry Month, a poet from the Indiana Writers Center will lead a discussion on “Continuum: New and Selected Poems” by Mari Evans. Refreshments will be served. This program is made possible by the Robert & Toni Bader Charitable Foundation through a grant to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

 

Poetry Open Mic Night, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. In celebration of National Poetry Month, individuals of all ages are invited to share their work. Indiana Poet Laureate Shari Wagner will be the evening’s featuring poet. Poets wishing to participate may register beginning April 1. Call 317-275-4322 to register.
